We welcome discussions about this research with residents in the communities. We will be glad to schedule project presentations for interested community groups. Please contact at the project office (631) 749-0896 if interested. Cooperating private landowners have provided access to locations desirable for deer capture, 4-Poster unit placement, and photo surveys. With permission, research staff will dispense bait at the desired site, set up equipment, and continue to bait and monitor the site throughout the trapping season. The anticipated duration of trapping is from January through March annually. The 4-Poster devices will be deployed from mid-March through mid-December each year. It is important for people or pets to stay away from these devices, or any deer traps that may be observed.
Expect Outcomes

It's anticipated that this research project will provide vital information on interaction of wildlife and the value of host applied tickicide treatments for reducing blacklegged and lone star tick numbers in Suffolk County. Furthermore, the results of this research may potentially reduce numbers of nuisance ticks and aid in the prevention of tick associated disease and illness.
